Celebrating Women In Powerful STEM Positions this Women’s month.

Its women’s month and what would be women’s month with showcasing those incredible aunts, mothers, sisters, wives and most importantly presidents and chairpersons of various STEM organizations.

Previously on our blog we featured incredible women in the field of medicine in Zimbabwe and we promised that we would continue shedding light on women who are making incredible impact in STEM fields. Well, this time we bring you the driving forces behind STEM bodies because as you all know behind every field there is a set of rules and regulations that are put in place. This means various organizations and bodies are behind doctors, architects, engineers and so on. What if we told you that some of these organizations are being led by extra ordinary women who have dedicated their time and passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These are the chairpersons and presidents of various organizations that make sure that certain standards and purposes of STEM careers are fulfilled in their respective fields.

Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers- Farai Mavhiya

Established in 1944, the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers has been a beacon of excellence, dedicated to promoting and maintaining the highest standards of engineering competence, monitoring engineering education, training, and manpower needs. At the helm of this prestigious and influential institution stands Engineer Farai Mavhiya, who assumed the esteemed role of President in 2024 and will celebrate the joyous occasion on 16 March. What better way to celebrate the occasion than on month that celebrates women? Her visionary leadership extends beyond the Institute, as she concurrently serves as the esteemed Board Chairperson at the renowned Harare Institute of Technology. Mavhiya’s appointment to these pivotal positions is a resounding testament to the unwavering strength and resilience of women, proving that anything is possible with hard work and patience. Her remarkable achievements in the field of engineering, coupled with her stewardship of one of Zimbabwe’s most esteemed scientific institutions, solidify her as a formidable force to be reckoned with, paving the way for future generations of women to excel in STEM fields.

Currently serving as the esteemed President of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe, a globally recognized professional body for Zimbabwe’s ICT professionals, Benza’s influence extends far beyond her leadership role. With an unwavering passion for service, she is a dedicated Rotarian, embodying the principles of community development and social responsibility. Benza’s entrepreneurial spirit shines through her role as the CEO, Managing Consultant, and founder of X-pert Solutions, a company that specializes in delivering cutting-edge business strategies, ICT solutions, cybersecurity, and project management services. Her multifaceted achievements are a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence and her commitment to driving innovation in the ever-evolving digital landscape. Her leadership skills and dedication to excellence propelled her to the prestigious position of President of the Institute of Architects from 2020 to 2022. Currently, she holds the esteemed role of President of the Zimbabwe Construction Industry, the sole national association representing built environment professionals, contractors (general, trade, civil), manufacturers, service providers, and suppliers in Zimbabwe. Dzvukamanja’s accomplishments are a testament to the power of women breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings. Her influential and inspirational journey serves as a beacon, celebrating the remarkable achievements of women who are making an indelible mark in their respective fields.

In one hour, girls in high school, as well as those that are in or have just finished tertiary education will have an opportunity to discuss anything they want in the career of their choosing with a selected mentor.
